Big Valley Medical Center began back in 1981. It was developed to meet the health care needs of the many residents in the area. In 2001, the Dorris and Tulelake Health Centers were added and the three locations became Mountain Valleys Health Centers. Since that time they have grown even larger, adding the Fall River Mills and Burney communities in 2002. What began as one health center has now grown into a network of six health centers providing health and dental services.
