In the Spirit of Wellness…
This a good time to talk about things we can do to maintain our wellness, now that spring is here… wait a minute… almost here? One tool that we use to help folks recover aspects of their lives lost through life’s challenges is the development of a wellness plan. A wellness plan is used to gain self-knowledge and develop healthy ways to cope during tough times we all experience.
When we are struggling through life’s challenges, it’s rare that we take the opportunity to examine the things that cause us to have negative response patterns. Many times we find ourselves repeating old destructive behaviors that may cause more problems and struggles with family and friends. It can become a vicious cycle! The development of a Wellness Plan takes us through the process of discovering ourselves. It can be used by anyone who wants to create a positive change in the way they feel or to increase their enjoyment of life.
In order to develop your own Wellness Plan, start by creating a list of things that you can do or have done in the past to help you stay well. This may include items such as; talking with others, working in the garden, taking a walk, playing with the kids, going to a community gatherings (church, clubs, meals), listening to music… The list goes on and on and is individual to each person.
“Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they're supposed to help you discover who you are.” Bernice Johnson Reagon
